Kanchipuram + 14 Divya desams

Kanchipuram

Kanchipuram is the only place in South India mentioned in the puranas among the sapta moksha puris, or seven most holy places that grant liberation. The other six are Ayodhya, Mathura, Haridwar, Kashi, Ujjain and Dvaraka. Kanchipuram is the divine abode where Brahma performed a great sacrifice and finally the Supreme Lord appeared as Varadaraja, the King of all those who grant benedictions. Due to a conflict with his wife Sarasvati, Brahma had to face many insurmountable obstacles from her. But everytime, Brahma took shelter of Lord Vishnu and He appeared in various divine forms to protect His devotee Brahma. There are 14 divya desam temples in Kanchipuram, including some gigantic Deities of Lord Trivikrama (32 ft) and Lord Pandava Doota (25 ft). Poigai Alwar appeared here. Sripada Ramanujacharya spent his early life at Kanchipuram and performed many amazing divine pastimes. Tirukatchi Nambi spent most of his time in serving Lord Varadaraja and would directly converse with the Lord.
